The Manhood by Design cover: a chrome compass rose and star emblem on signal red, with the title and “Stop Drifting. Start Building.”

The book

The blueprint for the man you intended to be.

Manhood by Design is a book and workbook system by Leo King that helps men replace drift with design — building discipline, purpose, fatherhood, and character through a practical, secular, values-based blueprint.

Two hundred–plus pages of working drawings: how to audit the six domains of your life, write standards you can execute, and hold them with daily reps — whatever the weather.

The premise

The problem isn’t motivation.

Every man you admire has one thing in common. Not talent. Not money. Not luck. At some point, he stopped waiting to become someone and started building him instead.

Most men never make that turn — not because they’re weak, but because nobody ever handed them a blueprint. You can’t build to a standard you’ve never written down. So the effort arrives in surges: a hard January, a new program, a promise made at midnight. The surge fades, the drift resumes, and the man concludes something is wrong with him. Nothing is wrong with him. He’s building without plans.

What the book builds

Three tools. In order.

The Audit

A structured inspection of the six domains — discipline, purpose, standards, fatherhood, money character, legacy. Not a mood ring: graded questions that show you exactly where the drift is and what it’s costing.

The Blueprint

Your standards, written. One page per domain, present tense, checkable — the man you intend to be, specified like something you actually plan to build. Because you do.

The Reps

The daily execution layer. Reps sized to survive your worst day, scheduled so they don’t negotiate with your mood, tracked so the evidence accumulates where you can see it.

From the book

Excerpt — from Chapter 1: The Drift

“Excerpt placeholder. Nobody decides to drift. That’s what makes it dangerous — it never asks for a decision. It only needs you busy, and you have been busy for years.”

“A default life isn’t a punishment. It’s just a building nobody drew plans for. You’ve been living in it long enough to call it normal. This book is the drafting table.”

Who it’s for

Built for the competent drifter.

This book is for you if

  • You’re competent everywhere except the direction of your own life.
  • The career works. It’s the mirror that’s been getting harder to look at.
  • You want standards without someone selling you enemies to blame.
  • You’re a father — or about to be — and winging it has stopped feeling acceptable.
  • You’ve read the motivation books. You’re ready for the manual instead.

Skip it if

  • You want a pep talk. This is a set of plans.
  • You want someone to blame. There’s no chapter for that.
  • You want seven hacks and a morning-routine miracle.

The workbook

Reading changes your mind. Reps change your life.

The companion workbook turns every chapter into worksheets, written standards, and a 90-day rep tracker.

Straight answers

Questions men actually ask.

Is Manhood by Design religious?

No. The book is secular and values-based. It’s built on discipline, intentionality, responsibility, and character — principles any man can build on, whatever he believes.

Do I need the workbook?

The book stands alone. But the men who get the most from it write. The workbook is where the ideas become reps.

What age is this for?

Written for men roughly 25–55; the material lands anywhere a man is ready to stop coasting.

Is this ‘alpha male’ content?

No. There’s no posturing, no enemies, and no formula for dominating anyone. This is a builder’s book. The only man you’re measured against is the one you intended to be.
